Scott Fayan scored his third tally early in the third overtime as host Lenape (N.J.) defeated St. Joseph’s Prep, 10-9, Friday in Medford.
Lenape – the defending South Jersey Group IV champion – improved to 7-0, while the Hawks fell to 4-3. The Prep is coached by first-year mentor Sean Delaney – who is a a cousin of Fayan.
Matt Smith added two goals and Tim Montgomery five assists for Lenape, which rallied from a 7-3 third-period deficit with five straight goals. Kevin Stump scored twice for his fourth and fifth tallies to give the Hawks a 9-8 lead, but the Indians sent it into overtime.
Griffin Fleming had two goals and two assists for the Hawks while Peter Gayhardt added two goals and an assist and Dan Fisher won 16 of 24 face offs.
Sean Lyons had 13 saves for SJP while Manny D’Allesio finished with 12 saves for Lenape.
