The PIAA Lacrosse championship games will be played in the Philly region this year for the first time ever due to a scheduling conflict, Phillylacrosse.com has learned.
The title games – originally slated for June 11 at Hersheypark Stadium where the previous seven championships have been held – have been moved to West Chester East due to a double-booking conflict with the Beyonce tour, a PIAA spokesperson has confirmed. Beyonce is scheduled for a concert on Sunday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. and the PIAA was told of the conflict just several weeks ago.
The PIAA Championship games are expected to be held at the original times of noon (girls) and 2:30 p.m. (boys) at East.
PIAA spokesperson Lynn Salvadia said a new site had to be quickly found after the PIAA learned of the double-booking. West Chester East is a popular site for District 1 playoff games.
Officials from District 1 have long campaigned to have the title games held in a District 1 location since District 1 and 12 teams have won every boys’ and girls’ championship and no team from outside of those districts has reached the title games in the seven years.
next year’s championship are currently scheduled for Hersheypark Stadium. Bids for the following two-year cycle have gone out, Salvadia said.
