La Salle will hold a 25th Anniversary year Celebration of its highly successful Lacrosse Program when it entertains defending PIAA champion Radnor on Saturday.
In its 25 years of lacrosse, La Salle – coached only by Hall of Famer Bill Leahy – has achieved an overall record of 440-93 and 287-5 in the Catholic League. The Explorers won PA state titles in 2004 (PSLA), 2008 (PSLA), 2009 (PIAA), and 2013 (PIAA). La Salle also reached the EPSLA finals in 2007 and the PIAA finals in 2010 and 2011. La Salle has won 19 Philadelphia Catholic League Championships.
Leahy is a 1992 graduate of Loyola College in Maryland where he played and coached midfield and was considered a face-off specialist. From 1995-1996 he played forward for the Philadelphia Wings. Coach Leahy coached the 2007 U.S. South UnderArmour All American Team. In 2010 Coach Leahy was the first lacrosse coach to be inducted into the Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame, and in 2013 he was inducted into the Philadelphia Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and will join the 2016 Under-19 USA World Team Staff for the World Games in Conquitlam, BC, Canada in July.
“This is a celebration about the La Salle lacrosse program,” said Leahy. “It’s about the boys who played, the parents, and the great coaches (Tony Resch etc). It’s been a great 25 years!”
