It took two power outages to finally slow down the Haverford School offense tonight.
The Fords erupted for 16 goals in the first half and three minutes of the third period and rolled to a 16-10 win over rival Malvern Prep in the Inter-Ac Challenge semifinals at Villanova University.
The win pushes the second-seeded Fords (20-4) into the finals Sunday against top-seeded Culver Academy (IN) at Villanova at 5 p.m. Culver defeated the Fords, 9-8, in overtime back on March 20.
The win also gave the Inter-Ac League champion Fords a clean three-game sweep of the Friars (18-5).
Haverford used an 11-3 run to help them earn a 13-6 halftime lead. The Fords then came out strong in the second half by scoring three goals in the first 2 minutes to make it 16-6. The game was 16-7 when the Villanova lights went out with 11 minutes to play. The lights were restored in 15 minutes, but with 6:25 to play they went out again.
Dox Aitken, Tommy McNamara, Keyveat Postell, Forry Smith, Alec Haas and Peter O’Grady each scored twice for the Fords, who had 10 players score at least once in the first half alone.
Mike Fay and Kyle Anderson led the Friars with two goals each.
