From US Lacrosse
US Lacrosse today announced the U.S. Men’s Under-19 National Team will host a Blue-White exhibition game on Sunday, Aug. 9, as part of the team’s weekend training camp at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
The 1 p.m. exhibition will match 50 of the nation’s top high school and college players against each other as they vie for spots on the Team USA 30-man roster. The U.S. team staff, led by head coach Nick Myers (Ohio State University), will split the training pool into two 25-man squads to compete in a Blue versus White format. Rosters are expected to be announced in early August.
Admission is free for US Lacrosse members displaying a membership card (print here) and $5 for non-members. The game will be streamed live on YouTube.com/USLacrosse.
The 50 players were selected from a 105-player pool that attended Team USA’s initial training camp, June 29-July 1 at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. Roughly 20 percent of that 105-player pool competed in the 2012 US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, the seventh edition of which takes place July 24-26 in Richmond, Va.
Ultimately, 23 players will be named to the final roster for the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championship, July 7-16, 2016, in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
The U.S. Men’s U19 team has amassed a 41-2 all-time record in international play, claiming gold in each of the seven U19 World Championship events to date (1988, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2008, 2012). Team USA defeated Canada 10-8 in the gold medal game to capture the 2012 FIL World Championship in Turku, Finland.
The world champion U.S. men’s national under-19 team trains and plays using best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), STX (equipment), and Cascade (helmets). Nationwide and Marriott International are official sponsors of Team USA.
