Lauren Becker Rubin, who guided Friends’ Central School to six Friends’ Schools League championships in eight seasons, has stepped down as head coach to spend more time with her family.

Rubin posted a career record of 110-45-1 and was the Phillylacrosse.com Coach of the Year in 2014 when she led her Phoenix to their only Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association title.
“It was the right timing,” said Becker Rubin. “I loved my time at Friends’ Central. It was so rewarding and a big part of my life, building a program that was so competitive in the Philadelphia area and winning a lot of championships.
“I loved the kids and the journey. I will miss the process and I will always have a fond place in my heart for Friends’ Central. It is a special place for me and the Friends’ Central lacrosse program is special. It is sad to leave, but I know it’s the right thing to do in my life.”
Rubin said she will focus on watching her children play in college athletics. His daughter, Jessie, who was an All-American and a key figure on last year’s Friends’ Central title team, was a member of the Division III National championship soccer team this fall at Washington University (MO). Becker Rubin’s son, Bryan, plays baseball at Vassar College.
Becker Rubin will remain heavily involved in the Philly lax scene, serving as president of PASLA and the chair of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association tourney.
