This is one of a series of previews for the 2017 Philly lacrosse season

The Shipley School

League: Friends Schools League

Head Coach: Mark Duncan – 16th year

Last year’s record: 2016 9-9, 2nd FSL

Key returnees: Nick Yi ( Cleveland St), Chad Allison (Widener), Trevor Green (Moravian), Frank Campanale (Messiah), Pete Moeller, Colton Gallo, Will Drake, Griff Gallagher, Henry Reed, Luke Grayum, Randall Brown

Coach’s Outlook for 2017: “A strong senior class leads the Gators this spring, hope to return to the FSL title game and give the seniors a Championship.

“Led on the offense by Pete Moeller- 36 g , Frank Campanale 28g, Nick Yi 24g, Chad Allison 24g are all back for Shipley- after the loss of Tate Gallagher to U of Richmond ( Shipley all time goal scorer and pts leader- 302 pts) and Amir Fluellen to Salisbury (35g). Sr. goalie Colton Gallo will have the support of Sr. Trevor Green and Jrs Will Drake, Charlie Ryan and Connor Bryan on D . Newcomers Henry Reed, Luke Grayum and Randall Brown round out a strong freshman class that gives the Gators added depth. Shipley heads to Clearwater, Florida at the end of March to play 4 official games against local Florida schools.”

George School

Head Coach: Kyle Sanphy, third season as varsity head coach

Last year’s record: 8-7 overall (1-3 Friends School League)

Key players: Sr. Alec Palmiotti, Attack; Jr. Jeremy Haug, Midfield; So. Andrew Arth, Attack

Coach’s Outlook for 2017: “Should be another competitive one, provided we stay healthy. League games are some of the toughest ones: Westtown has improved a lot over the past two years and it’s always tough to travel to Moorestown Friends School. We replaced most of the defense and returned most of the attack. Haug may be one of the predominant face off guys in the area (61% face-offs won in 2016). Arth (45 goals and 35 assists in 2016) is the only freshman to make the All-Friends League team last year. Palmiotti led the team with 61 goals and returns for his fourth and final year on the boys varsity lacrosse team. Still need to figure some things out on defense.”

Westtown School

Head Coach: Max Rosner

Last year’s record: 9-7

Key returnees: Sr. Matt Federau (G), Sr. Elliott Wilson (D), Sr. Hamilton Tree (M), Jr. Trent Kellner (M), Jr. Peirce Eldredge (M), Jr. Jordany Robleto-Baltazar (A), So. Jaxon Hendrickson (A)

Coach’s Outlook for 2017: “We are extremely excited for the 2017 season as we returned a number of key players and have experienced a ton of progress as a team this off-season. We are fortunate enough to have a competitive 17 game regularly-season schedule and with a core group of senior leaders, I think we are set to have a lot of success. As a growing program and one that strives to be highly competitive in the Philadelphia area, this year feels like the year where we have all of the pieces in places to make some waves in our conference and in the state.
