Visiting Avon Grove raced to a 6-1 halftime lead and held off Bishop Shanahan, 8-6, today in a key Ches-Mont League boys’ lacrosse game.
Brendan Harman led a balanced attack with two goals and the defensive unit of Bryce DeMuth, Alex Muller, James Chastain and Brayden Peck stood out for the Red Devils.
Avon Grove (6-1 overall) is 4-0 and atop the league, while Bishop Shanahan fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Ches-Mont. Downingtown East is 2-0 and Henderson is 3-1.
Also for Avon Grove, Nata Hammond won 12 of 17 face offs and Kevin Malone posted eight saves.
“You have to credit our defense; we played played great when man down,” said AG coach Eric Jackson. “The defense played great, and we had a balanced offense.
“We do need to finish games a little better. We are still trying to figure ourselves out.”
Zack Augustine, Nick Chastain, Jake Smith and Scooter Whiteside each had a goal and an assist for Avon Grove. Sam Goforth had three goals and an assist for the Eagles.
The Devils were happy to get standout Peck back on defense. He had missed the first few weeks of the year after recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus from the wrestling season.
