Visiting Perkiomen Valley outscored Haverford High, 5-2, in the second half and claimed a 6-5 non-keague boys’
lacrosse win on Thursday.
The Vikings (6-1) Shawn Coulter led with 2 goals and 2 assists and Kevin Mo posted 10 saves.
Haverford High, which got three goals and an assist from Luke McCallion and two goals from Sheivert, fell to 5-3. Danny Tierney had 10 saves.
Nick Marren, Remy Sell, Sam Bonavita, Connor Donovan, Kyle Beaudoin, Rasheed May stood out on defense for PV and Matt Brock was even on the face-offs with McCallion.
“We came in to the game knowing Haverford would be the best team we had played all season thus far,” said PV coach Bryan Churchey. “We knew they were extremely athletic on both sides of the ball, their goalie would be tough to beat, and that like all Delco teams they pride themselves on outworking, outhustling, and playing a physical brand of lacrosse.”
At half we talked about that mentality and how we needed to match it and that this was a test for us as a team.” Churchey said. “We came out and our defense didn’t give them anything while our offense found the few opportunities we needed in critical moments to steal the momentum.
Nick Marren got PV within 3-2 midway through the third against a 10-man ride by finding an empty net. Coulter tied the game at 3-3 on a Mario Scotese assist after he drew a double team with 1.8 seconds left in the 3rd.
From there Coulter started the fourth with a transition goal after a tough defensive stop and the Vikes got an EMO goal (1:1 on the day) on a bouncer from Connor Willey (assisted by Coulter).
With just over four minutes left freshman Brock won a fac-off following a Fords goal and Coulter fought through a scrum, got the loose ball, and in transition found Brian Fehr open on the crease for the dunk and a 6-4 lead.
With just over a minute left McCallion took a 1v1 inside to finish for a 6-5 score. PV tried to kill the clock but turned it over with 32 seconds left. Haverford called TO, but the Viking defense held and denied any good opportunities to run out the clock.
“I think us getting that game tying goal with 1.8 seconds left let in the third gave us the momentum it was a key moment in the game. Multiple guys stepped up all game in all aspects. Very proud of our guys they’ve worked extremely hard as a team all year and it’s paying off now on the field.”
