Community/ Service Organizations
Crump:
“I’m a CSO Senior Leader through my school. We help organize and volunteer in events like Book Drives, Thanksgiving Food Drives, Blood Drives, and the Make-A-Wish basketball tournament. We also help run a Candy Cane Sale, Personalized Gift Drive, Buddy Days, and a Holiday program to raise money and collect donations. We’re currently working to organize a Lower School/Upper School CSO Bonding Assembly where students will make blankets for kids at Silver Springs. I also went on two service trips to Roanoke, VA and New Rochelle, NY to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity with a group from my school.”

What are your college and future goals?
Crump:
“I’m hoping to get as much out of my college experience as possible— I want to keep trying new things while also further exploring my current passions. I’m intrigued by medical and computer science, and I can’t wait to see where those roads take me in the future. Whatever I end up doing, I guess my goal is to work as hard at it as I possibly can and to wholeheartedly follow my interests.

How do you describe leadership?
Crump:
“I would describe a leader as someone who leads by example and is committed to giving 110% to whatever activity they participate in. I like to think that if my teammates see my co-captains and me working hard at practice, that they will want to do the same. Positivity is another feature that I think a leader should emulate; if we are negative and cynical, the success we achieve in no way compares to that when we are positive and encouraging. Of course, all of these qualities of a leader also require communication— a leader must listen to the needs of the team while also expressing his/her own opinions and goals.

How do you balance lacrosse, school, and extracurriculars?
Crump:
“For a while, the balance was really tough— it required many stressful late nights. Over time, though, my time management skills improved, and I was able to balance my workload by utilizing my frees in school and my time on the weekends to get ahead on the next week’s work. My teacher’s at GA are all understanding of the extracurricular demands on my peers and me, and definitely helped achieve that balance. If I struggled on homework, I knew I could talk to my teacher about it, and they’d take time out of their day to help me through it. My coaches also believe that school comes first, so if I needed to catch up on work or take a test after school, they understood.
