Philly girls’ HS previews: Central League’s Strath Haven, Lower Merion

This is one of a series of previews for the 2018 Philly lacrosse season.

Strath Haven High School

League: Central

Coach: Pigeon Graham; Third year as head coach

Last year’s record: 14-4, lost in first round of states to State Champion Archbishop Carroll

Key returnees: Katie Capalbo Goalie, Margot Hotham Midfield, Chloe Brennan Midfield, Elisa Kruse Defense, Sophie Haase Midfield, Emily Raech Attack

Others to watch: Gillian Brennan Attack, Olivia Memeger Attack, Lizzie Healy Defense

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “We are very excited for the 2018 season. We lost some key players last year and we are rebuilding in our defensive end but four-year starting goalie, Katie Capalbo will be a good anchor for us. We have some promising sophomores and strong senior leadership and we hope to be competitive in the Central League and beyond.”

Lower Merion High School

League: Central League

Coach: Laura Lincicome, 2nd year Head Coach, 3rd year with the program

Last year’s record: 4-14 in 2017

Key returnees: Ashley Roberts, Senior, Midfield. Izzy Meline, Senior, Defense. Sophia Shaffer, Senior, Midfield. Melissa Gingold, Junior, Midfield, Teresa Cato, Sophomore, Midfield, Olivia Ruth, Sophomore, Attack. Euna Carpenter, Junior, Defense.

Others to watch: Sage O’Connor, Freshman, Defense. Lilli Dowdall, Junior, Goalie.

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “This 2018 team is really special. They are special because they have a bond unlike any other team I have been a part of, with great leadership and determination to better the program. We have a lot of talented and key returnees that will guide the emerging lower classes. I am confident that this years team will work hard and play even harder. They have an enormous amount of hustle and heart that will carry us throughout this season and help to build the program for years to come.”
