Neumann University’s Director of Athletics and Recreation Chuck Sack has announced the hiring of Kyle Gardner as the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach.
“As a community and a lacrosse program we are excited to announce Kyle Gardner as our new head men’s lacrosse coach,” said Sack. “Kyle’s experience as a successful lacrosse coach and role model for young men was very powerful and inspiring to us. His connections to the sport of lacrosse and our own community run deep and we believe with these relationships and his leadership will have a great impact on the young men in our lacrosse program.”
Gardner is a 2010 graduate from Neumann University with a degree in English. He was a three-time Captain, three-time All-Conference player, 2008 Men’s Lacrosse Team MVP, and 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Academic Team Honors. During his three seasons, Gardner accumulated 44 goals, 28 assists and 42 ground ball s in 36 contests.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to the Neumann University Men’s Lacrosse Program as it enters what I expect to be a very exciting new chapter,” said Gardner. “As a coach, I cannot think of anything more exciting and rewarding than getting the opportunity to return to my alma mater as the head coach of the program that I once played for and have remained so heavily invested in.
“I would like to thank Neumann University Athletic Director Chuck Sack and all who shared their time and energy in the search process for granting me this great opportunity. I look forward to the journey ahead as the men’s lacrosse program continues to define its positive place in the culture of the University and deepen its roots in the NCAA Division III landscape.”
Originally from the Greater Philadelphia area, Gardner has strong ties to the local lacrosse scene. After Neumann, Gardner spent four years at the Blue Ridge School in Virginia, where he was the Varsity Head Lacrosse Coach and Lacrosse Program Director. At Blue Ridge, Gardner built a championship caliber program, with his teams winning three consecutive VIC championships, as well as making it to the VISAA Division 1 State Finals in 2012, and returning to the State quarter-finals in 2013. His teams at Blue Ridge amassed a total record of 51-24 during his four year span at the helm. Gardner was named the 2012 VIC Coach of the Year. During his four years at Blue Ridge, Gardner produced two All-Americans, 15 All-State Players and 22 All-Conference Players.
Currently, Gardner is the Assistant Director of Admissions and Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Westtown School in West Chester, Pa. He oversees development of the Middle and Lower School Boy’s Lacrosse programs, organizes and directs instructional clinics for lower and middle school students interested in lacrosse.
Gardner is currently working on his Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration at Concordia University Irvine.
