On March 29th the North Penn Boys Lacrosse teams put down their lacrosse sticks and put on their work boots. The squad spent several hours at the Variety Club Camp and Developmental Center in Worcester Township.
All 53 players and the coaching staff worked hard to clear the many downed limbs and branches this past winter had left behind. In addition, they also cleared two areas for the Center; one will be used for platform tents, the other for a treehouse.
“Our program is focused on doing the little things RIGHT both on the field and in the community,” North Penn coach Richard Smith said. “We will always put our best foot forward whenever it involves giving back to the community.
“Many of our players have classmates who attend the Variety club for camp so this service project was much more meaningful to our players”
Since 1935, Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware has continued its mission to enrich the lives of children and young adults with disabilities through social, educational, and vocational program that nurture independence and self-confidence, and prepare them for life. In 1949, Variety Club Camp and Developmental Center opened its doors for the first time. Originally serving boys who had survived polio through an Overnight Camp, our Camp and Developmental Center now serves children of all ability levels in a wide array of programs year round. Variety believes every child deserves opportunities to make choices, navigate risk, and practice his or her social and life skills in a genuine, nurturing atmosphere. Our programming espouses these beliefs by offering different activity choices within each programmatic area. Our staff is trained in supporting the individual at his/her level while still providing opportunities to develop and use new skills.
