Payne: “I hope to attend an academically strong college with a highly competitive lacrosse program and one that helps me stay involved with local community service. I’m happy to have some of these types of schools showing interest in me. I’m currently undecided on a college major but am considering studying in the STEM fields. Beyond college, I hope to have a rewarding career and to continue helping others by staying active in community and volunteer programs.”
How do you describe leadership?
Payne: “Leadership to me is always staying positive and encouraging others as much as possible. A good student-athlete leader is willing to put in hard work in the classroom and on the field and will push his or her teammates to work hard every practice as well as every game. It is important for leaders to listen and absorb what is told to them. Good leaders are always learning, working to improve themselves and setting an example as they lead others.”
How do you balance lacrosse, school, and extracurriculars?
Payne: “My schedule is often chaotic with academics, lacrosse, basketball, clubs and volunteer work, but I am able to prioritize my activities and plan accordingly to work on tasks. I try to utilize my time wisely and I take advantage of any downtime to get things done.”
