Kate Hickey scored with 1:12 remaining in overtime Saturday to lift visiting Perkiomen Valley to a 6-5 victory over Central Bucks West in the District 1 AAA quarterfinals.

The win vaults the upstart Vikings (seeded 12th, 15-5) into the semifinals Tuesday at golden goal to send the Perkiomen Valley Vikings to the District 1 semifinals Tuesday at No. 1 Garnet Valley (4 p.m.). PV also clinched its first PIAA playoff berth. CB West will host Owen J. Roberts Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a playback (top 7 teams advabce to states).

The Vikings, who shocked fifth-seeded Harriton, 9-8, on Thursday, have become the Cinderella team, this time defeating a fourth seed. PV was down, 4-0, in the first half and then used stifling defense to seize control.

Just before the game was played at War Memorial Field, though, it was originally postponed due to heavy downpours on the turf field. All fans and teams left but it was announced 15 minutes later that the game would be played and both teams were forced to drive back.

Despite heavy rain, the game started and CB West capitalized as Finley Ueland scored three goals and Dani Dundas added a fourth.

But suddenly PV responded as Kat Kelley, Maggie Sell, Riley McGettigan, and Tori Bruno scored in the last eight minutes to tie the game at 4-4 at halftime. Dundas and PV’s Paige Tyson traded goals in the second half to set up overtime.

“From the start we knew it was going to be a tough game, but I think the mentality from the past few games really helped us to step up and play our game.” said McGettigan. “We all knew we had nothing to lose and we went out with energy and intensity and worked together as a team and that is what made us successful.

“We have worked so hard this year to be where we are and no one expected us go this far because we were the ‘underdogs.’ We have made history in our lacrosse program for going as far as we have and we are hoping to continue that and keep our season going.”
