.@Epochlax game proud to sponsor and play big part in new Casey Powell Lacrosse 16 lacrosse video game

Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 3/25/16

Epoch Lacrosse founder and owner James Miceli says gaming is a major part of our younger culture.

Then why not combine the thrill of a lacrosse video game with Epoch products?Epoch caset Powell

“”Gaming is large part of our culture for millennials and Gen-Zers,” said Miceli. “Gamers represent our target audience so supporting a game and getting our products in front of kids provides intrinsic value.”

Miceli was speaking about the Casey Powell Lacrosse 16, a lacrosse simulation video game released on March 9. The game, developed by Big Ant Studios and published by Crosse Studios for Xbox One, PlayStation®4, and on Steam for Microsoft Windows, is not only sponsored by Epoch but also allows for users to improve their performance by upgrading to Epoch products.

“We felt the sport needed a video game,” said Miceli. “I remember when I was in college I thought it would be great if we had a lacrosse game and to see one come out on the biggest platform is exciting, putting Epoch aside.”

The game, which costs $50, was created by longtime game developer Carlo Sunseri, of Crosse Studios. Sunseri is a volunteer coach at Robert Morris.

The game has many options. Users can create a digital version of themselves and play 1-on-1 with friends or play online against anybody in the world. Users also can integrate their team uniforms and enter team names that can be uploaded so others on the team can download for use.

“It’s good for our sport,” said Miceli. “I’m an older guy,but younger guys are all gamers; they come into work Mondays with war stories, about how they ended up at someone’s house gaming.

Miceli is proud that users can improve their play-ability by earning points to upgrade with Epoch products such as the Sequel and Dragonfly sticks as well as Otter Mesh.

“We didn’t want to be just a sponsor on a billboard,” said Miceli. “It puts our products in your hands and improves play-ability and maximizes performance.

“We worked with Carlo so that players can earn credits and points to upgrade and buy Epoch equipment. Every player has certain attributes; some are bigger or stronger or more accurate shooters. Now you can improve your accuracy or shot speed with Epoch products.

“It’s the same in real life that if you purchase Epoch products you can improve your game.”

Miceli said Epoch’s goal is always to appeal to the love of the game of lacrosse.

“I always tell people that we are a technology-based company,” said Miceli. “We are also lacrosse players and we want to play as much as the next person so if we can get involved in cool stuff that’s all the better.”

“The feedback for the game has been so positive. I have watched a lot of social media and the kids seem excited. Finally, lacrosse players have their own option.”

Miceli said Powell plans to have Casey Powell 16 tournaments at his camps and tournaments.

“To have Casey Powell as the face of the game is great,” said Miceli. “Games are integrated into the American culture and to have the sport we love in a game like this is really cool. We are happy to be a part of it.”

Others to Watch
Jenna Dzelzgalvis-attack-junior
Brooke Weaver-midfield-Freshman
Amanda Kenrick-Goalie-Freshman
Gillian Dysart-defense-sophomore

Coach’s outlook: “We are very excited about this season. We have a good amount of depth, lots of great chemistry, and the girls have an excellent work ethic. We won’t win every game, but this team will no doubt work to give every team we play this year the best we have to offer.”

QUKAERTOWN

Coach: Nicole Donnelly – 3rd year

Key returners: Kayla Donnelly (Junior-Defender); Mackenzie Hadfield (Soph – Defender); Brooklyn Law (Junior – Midfield); Olivia Maseloff (Senior – Midfield)

Others to watch: Taylor Kishbaugh (Junior – Attack); Alisa Robinson (Sophomore – Midfield); Sarah

Coach’s outlook: “Entering our third year of high school lacrosse, we are jumping in with both feet into the SOL National Conference. Fifty percent of the team is returning players who have now played the sport for three years plus, and the other 50 percent just started to learn the game on March 7. We hope to hold our own on the field and give the other members of our conference a tough matchup. We are looking to build on our win total of five from last year’s independent schedule.”

SOUDERTON

Head Coach: Lindsay Walbrandt, first year; Assistant coaches: Nancy Offner, Assistant Coach, Mike McGowan, Goalie Coach

Last year’s record: 18-5 overall, 9-1 SOL National Conference Co-Champions

Key returners:
Julianna Ofalt, 12, defense
Krista Schneider, 12, midfield
Leah Goodwin, 12, attack
Carlie Doughty, 10, midfield

Others to watch:
Sarah Goodwin, 10, midfield

Riley McGowan, 9, attack
Katie Halteman, 12, midfield
Sophia Lynch, 10, defense

Coach’s outlook: “We have five returning seniors – Ofalt, Schneider, L. Goodwin, Halteman and Olivia Toler – with strong underclassmen adding depth and longevity to the program. Our goals are to maintain the winning conference seasons of the past few years while developing our younger players to continue with many more successful years of the program. We hope to use our cohesive and aggressive defensive unit to control possession and translate that into goals on the attacking end of the field with a wide range of players who are capable of putting points on the board. The coaching staff hopes to bring a positive energy and an unbelievable amount of experiences as a players and coaches to the program.”

UPPER DUBLIN

Coach: Lauren Mateja, first season; Assistant coaches: Hannah Vogel, Tara Brady, Amy Coffey

Last year’s record: 9-9 overall, 6-3 SOL

Others to watch: Elizabeth Barber (JR, M), Jessica Grodsky (JR, M), Lindsey Schreiber (SO, M), Caroline Wall (SO, M)

Outlook: “Cardinals Lacrosse is looking to make some serious noise inside the SOL this year. After losing only two starters from last year’s lineup, one of UD’s biggest strengths is game experience. With knowledge and All-Conference leadership on both sides of the ball, the Cardinals will look to control the tempo of each game and make smart plays. From the starters on the field to the teammates and coaches on the sideline, every single Lady Cardinal is hungry to bring a conference championship back home.”

UPPER MORELAND

Coach: Pam Remmey – 3rd year; Assistant coaches: Melissa Felicetti and Deanna Giorno

Last year’s record: 10 – 7 overall, 4-5 SOL

Key returners: Mel Wittick – de 11th, Sydney Bachmayer attack 11th, Delaney Smith – 12th midfield, Maura O’Leary – defense 12th, Allison Felicetti – attack 11th

Others to watch: Madison Pisut 11th grade defense, Jess Flanagan – 10th grade midfield

Coach’s outlook:
“We have a solid group of returners that will need to blend with younger players. The Bears’ success will depend on how they compete against tougher non league opponents and good teams in their own league.”

The National 175 Best of the Best Club Team Showcase was conceived on the premise that the strongest programs in the country want to compete against each other in order to establish which program really is the best team in each graduation year across the nation. Our team showcase is a team event whereby the limited teams invited and attending have been carefully selected. Each of these programs/teams have been recognized as top programs committed to the development of the student athlete and with players seeking to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. The Mid Atlantic Showcase is an individual recruiting event for boys rising freshman (2020s) through rising senior (2017s) that gives them the opportunity to showcase their athletic skill set, lacrosse IQ, and their ability to adjust their game to the skill sets of those around them. College Coaches are given the ability to evaluate a player’s athletic skill set while also getting to assess their academic profile as it relates to their college/universities academic profile. We are expecting over 70 college coaches to attend this year’s inaugural Mid Atlantic Showcase with the University of Maryland already confirmed to attend.
Players will get the opportunity to get a 1-hour training session in the morning before the showcase games begin from the coaches in attendance learning new position specific skill sets as well as team concepts testing your lacrosse IQ and ability to enhance your game. College Coaches will also take this time to tell you what THEY are looking for throughout the day and what YOU can do to get yourself recruited.
Teams will be made up of 20-21 players (2 goalies, 4 defenders, 2 lsm, 1 FO specialist, 8 midfielders, and 4-5 attack man) and compete in THREE 50 minute showcase games using NCAA Rules. In between game players will have the opportunity to attend an additional 30 -minute nutrition information seminar at the MSI Sport Village Complex.
The ELITE-42 Showcase Game:
At the conclusion of the day, the top 42 players will be selected after our evaluations have been talented.

National 175 Summer Showcase, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 110 8th Street, Troy, NY 12180, July 25-27th, 2016. Welcome to the 5th annual 2016 National 175 Summer Showcase hosted at RPI. This is the premier lacrosse recruiting showcase that provides the platform for the most talented players to showcase their abilities in front of college lacrosse coaches seeking to recruit players from all over the lacrosse community. Based on recommendations from our college coaches and some of the major club team directors we have made a decision to move our Flagship National 175 Summer Showcase 2016 event to the PRIME recruiting dates. The recruiting calendar is always a challenge to maneuver, but with an expected dead period surrounding the July 4th holiday likely to be announced in the coming months it is our belief that the weekends in July will be monopolized by the Club team tournaments and that the individual showcases will be better positioned for college coach and top players attendance in the weekday venues. https://natinvite175.sportngin.com/register/form/051476190“>Click here to apply.

Upper Dublin’s Jack Rapine said his Cardinals’ are not setting any long-term goals this year.

“The goal is work as hard as we can and be the best we can be; if anybody beats us on the way, props to them,” he said.

Jack Rapine

Jack Rapine

On Saturday the visiting Cardinals looked like a team that is poised to have a big 2016 season when they routed defending PIAA champion Radnor, 16-4, in a season opener for both.

Upper Dublin has dominated the Suburban One the past three years, but last year was knocked out in the second round of District 1 play by Conestoga. This year’s team features a number of key returnees, including All-Americans Rapine (Johns Hopkins signee) and Michael Sowers (attackman, Princeton commit and USA U-19 member). But first-year coach David Sowers, who served as J.P. Banks’ top assistant the past four years, said his team will only reach its potential by staying focused against all foes, including the struggling Suburban One teams.

“We really want to take it one game at a time this year,” he said. “Today we were only thinking about Radnor; they are an amazing coached team with great players. We happened to have a better day today, but we have a lot to clean up. At times we were sloppy, but we’ll clean that up as we go.”

Sowers had two goals and seven assists Saturday and his uncanny play-making helped Michael Mullen (Vassar commit) and Max Winebrake each score five goals. Nick Vernacchio (St. Joseph’s signee) had two goals and Evan Scott (Ursinus commit) added three assists while junior goalie Dylan Lojeski had 14 saves and Rapine won 12 of 17 face-offs.

The Cards led, 3-1, after one period and 5-2 at halftime before blowing it open with four goals to open the second half.

On Tuesday Upper Dublin opens its Suburban One season against Norristown, one of several conference teams that will be overmatched against the Cards. Rapine said his team must not let down when it faces league foes as well as its non-league opponents (Spring-Ford, Avon Grove and Springfield-Delco)

“This year we’re trying to get more focus in every game,” he said. “We are working harder in practice and trying to get better every day. It’s all about practice.

“I was really happy with our team defense today and our off-ball defense is looking great,” Rapine added. “Our wing play on the faceoffs was great; we were getting lots of groundballs. We need the 50-50 groundballs. And our offense was amazing as it always is.”

Radnor also lost its first game last year and two of its first three games. of course, the season ended with a state championship in overtime over St. Joseph’s, so Raiders coach John Begier was optimistic despite the lopsided score.

“When we put together our schedule, we always want to play the best,” he said. “No doubt in our minds, Upper Dublin is one of the best teams in the state and I think this keep us focused and practicing the right way. They have several players that are the best in the state at what they – like Rapine and Sowers – so this was a huge test for us.”

Jack Wilson, a First-Team All-Phillylacrosse.com pick who had the game-winning goal in the state final last year, scored two goals for the Raiders. Luke Jones and Cole Scheuerle also scored one each.

“We have a bunch of guys stepping into newer roles,” said Begier. “Some of these guys were role players last year and are starters now; some guys maybe were not even on the team last year and are on the field. The lights were bright on us today.

“We were in the game today at halftime and they went on a run. We’ll be better for it; we found out whee we were and we’ll be better for it. They are everything we thought they would be. They are one of the best teams in the state, if not the best. It’s March – we have been on our backs before and we’ll find our way.”
