The Big12 Fall Invitational (big12lacrosse.com) announces the inaugural event for the nations top 2018 and 2019 club teams on Sunday November 15 at Blandair Park Columbia, MD.
The event was founded by Kevin Mayer, Director of Rock Lacrosse, and was established to provide 2018 and 2019 teams a viable tournament venue to compete and receive recruiting exposure to NCAA Division I, II, III programs while also bringing much needed awareness to ALS a devastating disease that afflicts 6400 Americans annually.
Proceeds from the Big12 Fall Invitational will be donated to the Big12 tournament partner the Brigance Brigade Foundation (brigancebrigade.org), whose mission is to equip, encourage and empower people living with ALS.
OJ Brigance is a retired CFL and NFL player and current Senior Advisor to Player Development for the Baltimore Ravens who was diagnosed with ALS in 2007, living today in humble fashion while overcoming many adversities using three key words: Faith, Focus and Fortitude.
“The club lacrosse world has been in need of a recruiting platform for our younger high schools team and players to receive exposure in their freshman and sophomore years,” Mayer said. “Early recruiting has no doubt moved up the evaluation process for NCAA recruits and the Big12 was established to provide a platform that can accomplish this in the heart of the Baltimore region.
“We have teams attending from Upstate New York, Canada and as far west as Texas which provides a great platform for NCAA programs to see the latest crop of freshman and sophomore talent from well established validated premier level lacrosse programs.”
”In addition to the lacrosse component we have been looking to utilize the growth of lacrosse to develop a fund raising outlet for ALS, my father Frank ‘Lynn’ Mayer lost his battle with the disease in 2001. Dad spent the last 5 years of his life in a wheelchair and his support network was essential to him living with the disease in a dignified manner. The partnership with the Brigance Brigade Foundation made great sense and we are happy to combine lacrosse awareness with support for families suffering with ALS.
Legacy Global Sports is the tournament partner for infrastructure support for the event.
