Jake Morin had two goals and three assists and Jason Rose posted 13 saves despite feeling ill as Garnet Valley continued its surprising post-season run Saturday by defeating Cumberland Valley, 6-4, in the PIAA Class AAA boys’ quarterfinals at Don Thomas Stadium in Reiffton, Berks County.
The Jaguars (17-8), the District 1 champion after starting as the 15th seed, will meet District 3 champion Manheim Township in the semifinals Tuesday (5 p.m.) at Don Thomas Stadium (Exeter High).
Clayton Miller put Cumberland Valley ahead, 1-0, but Hunter Baar, Nate Ominsky and Danny Bradley (one goal, two assists) scored to give the Jags a 3-1 lead in the second period. Mitch Lachman later made it 4-2 and Morin scored after CV pulled within 4-3 in the third period.
The game was delayed before it began and during the contest due to inclement weather. Garnet Valley coach Frank Urso said Rose – a first-team All-Central League goalie who has been dominant in the post-season – was almost unable to continue playing in the second half due to an illness. But he remained in the game and stood out again, along with a defense led by defensemen Austin Patton, Sam Morin and Tyler Davis, long pole Gavin Miller and defensive middies Ryan Louden, Greg Reynolds and Ryan Lopez.
