Why did you choose Arcadia? “I chose Arcadia University because it is a perfect smaller Division 3 school on the rise. Arcadia is outside of Philadelphia and will have a lot of connections and opportunities.”

Thank You: “I would like thank my parents for always being there for me and coming to every practice and game. Also thanks to Coach Dunn, Coach Ward, Coach Scerbo, and Coach Keane for pushing me in this direction to play at the next level.”

The PIAA Lacrosse championship games will be played in the Philly region this year for the first time ever due to a scheduling conflict, Phillylacrosse.com has learned.

The title games – originally slated for June 11 at Hersheypark Stadium where the previous seven championships have been held – have been moved to West Chester East due to a double-booking conflict with the Beyonce tour, a PIAA spokesperson has confirmed. Beyonce is scheduled for a concert on Sunday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. and the PIAA was told of the conflict just several weeks ago.

The PIAA Championship games are expected to be held at the original times of noon (girls) and 2:30 p.m. (boys) at East.

PIAA spokesperson Lynn Salvadia said a new site had to be quickly found after the PIAA learned of the double-booking. West Chester East is a popular site for District 1 playoff games.

Officials from District 1 have long campaigned to have the title games held in a District 1 location since District 1 and 12 teams have won every boys’ and girls’ championship and no team from outside of those districts has reached the title games in the seven years.

next year’s championship are currently scheduled for Hersheypark Stadium. Bids for the following two-year cycle have gone out, Salvadia said.

From Press Release

The Katie Samson Foundation Lacrosse Fest will be celebrating its 16th year! The Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival began in 2000 and has grown into the premier high school lacrosse event in the United States.

Katie Samson is seen here with Harriton High’s boys’ team in 2014

This year’s festival will be held on Saturday April 23rd at Radnor High School, and will be the LARGEST single-day high school lacrosse festival in the country with 54 varsity teams (26 premier boys’ teams and 28 premier girls’ teams on six fields running simultaneously), wheelchair rugby, tennis and basketball games, youth games, 20+ vendors, 10,000+ fans, 50+ major sponsors and 2 FanZones with rides, bounces, rock walls, face painting, BBQ, funnel cakes, raffle prices, clothing, equipment etc.

The Katie Samson Foundation gives back! Over $132,000 was raised in 2015 with the generous support of over 50 sponsors, donations from attendees, as well as fundraising efforts by each participating lacrosse team. Since 2000 over $1.7 million has been distributed to charities benefiting medical research and providing care for people with spinal cord injuries– research (43 percent), patient care (46 percent) and quality of life (11 percent).

The Event:

The Katie Samson Festival began in 2000 and has grown into the premier high school lacrosse event in the United States. Motivated by Katie’s perseverance and courage, volunteers in the lacrosse community and beyond support the cause year after year. The festival is filled with activities for the whole family; with exciting lacrosse team match-ups, a demonstration of wheelchair sports, food, fan zones, and a spirit of sportsmanship and purpose. With generous support of over 50 sponsors, donations from attendees, as well as fundraising efforts by each participating lacrosse team, the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival has raised over 1.6 million dollars. We appreciate the tremendous support and we hope to see you at the 2015 Festival.

The Highlights:

* 27 premier boys’ and girls’ league-sanctioned regular season games and several youth team games
* The Fest offers these athletes an opportunity to experience a unique community spirit of giving while competing in a challenging sporting event.
* Six fields running simultaneously from 9am to 5pm.
* Over 10,000 attendees
* Disabled athletes demonstrating wheelchair tennis, basketball and rugby games.
* Families from all over the mid-Atlantic region will be enjoying games, rides, boutiques, face-painters, balloon artists, great raffle prizes, plenty of food and of course, great lacrosse. There will be two FanZones which will have “Katie’sKiddieKorner” for younger fans- with clowns and balloon designs, a Mechanical Bull, Rock Climbing Wall, moonbounces, music, and visits from Hershey characters
* Food vendors in each Fan Zone.
* Boutiques in both Fan Zones guarantee a shopping opportunity for all – including the latest lacrosse clothing and gear at great Fest prices.
* In support of local lacrosse legend John Christmas’ foundation LEAPS (Lacrosse Education Attitude Perseverance Success), we are asking Fest attendees to clear out their basement of used lacrosse equipment, and to PLEASE bring it to the Fest, dropping it off at either entrance. This will provide countless opportunities for inner city kids to learn and experience the great sport of lacrosse through John’s passionate efforts.

The Cause:

The Katie Samson Foundation GIVES BACK! KSF raises money for research to identify a cure for spinal cord injuries and to optimize care and quality of life for spinal cord patients. The foundation also promotes social awareness as the lacrosse community comes together to support the festival. Through Katie’s courage and perseverance, her foundation has successfully raised funds to support spinal cord injury research and rehabilitation programs that provide much needed independence and quality of life improvements for those with spinal cord injuries.

Katie Samson – The Inspiration:

Katie Samson grew up in Wayne, Pennsylvania and attended Radnor High where she was a goalkeeper for the girls lacrosse team. Katie went on to study Art History at Middlebury College where she also played Division III lacrosse and helped her team capture a National Championship in 1999. The following winter Katie suffered a spinal cord injury while sledding and became a quadriplegic.

After months of rehabilitation and encouragement from family and friends, Katie went back to finish her degree and help coach her college team to two more National titles. In 2004, Katie moved to Arizona to pursue her graduate degree where she remained for 6 years. She moved back to the Philadelphia are in 2010 and is currently the Assistant Director of Museum Education at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Katie still finds time to play wheelchair sports, such as rugby, tennis and cycling. Katie also enjoys storytelling as a creative art form and performs for different organizations in Philadelphia. As a peer mentor for people who have suffered spinal cord injury through Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, Katie encourages her mentees to seek out adaptive sports and therapeutic programs that have had such a positive effect on her life.

Event Details:

The high school games will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, April 23rd. All of the games will be played at Radnor High School. The festival website, www.katiesamsonlaxfest.com, has an amazing inspirational video, the full schedule as well as all the other exciting details. Or visit us on Facebook – Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival. A $10 ($5 for students/under 3 is free!) admission fee allows unlimited access to all activities and rides within the two Fan Zones.

Supporting the festival offers an opportunity to do something meaningful and historic to impact the lives of people affected by spinal cord injuries. The Katie Samson Foundation is a 501©3 corporation located at 522 Brookside Avenue, St David’s, PA 19087 (610-688-1606). All donations are tax deductible. Please contact one of the two Co-Directors of Development, Courtney Cambpell or Krissy Brown at courtneycampbell91@gmail.com and kirssy_brown@mac.com respectively or call 610-293-9984 with any questions.

Bishop Shanahan won the “pink” game Tuesday over Kennett

Bishop Shanahan dedicated its jerseys and efforts today to United for HER, whose mission is to bridge the gap between the medical and wellness communities by funding and delivering complementary therapies that support the physical and emotional needs of those with breast cancer during treatment and beyond. Unite for HER educates women and the community about the role of healthy lifestyle choices in the prevention of disease and the promotion of wellness.

The Shanahan players wore pink shirts, socks and laces to honor those women in their lives that have been affected by breast cancer.

The Eagles improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Ches-Mont.

The game is part of a larger project by schools across Chester County that are working to plan special “pink” fundraising games and events that will raise breast cancer awareness and provide donations to Unite for HER.

Why did you choose Quinnipiac? “I chose Quinnipiac University because of the great academic reputation as well as the school being located in one of the prettiest areas of the country. LEGACY Global Sports will host the Warrior National Prospect Invite, Brine National Lacrosse Classic, and the Brine National Lacrosse Academy from July 19-22 at the River City Sportsplex in Richmond, VA. During this first-time All-Star Week, all three flagship events will be staggered to highlight “best of the best” youth and high school players while affording maximum game time and optimal scouting opportunities.legacy pics

Players earn the privilege of participating in the first two lacrosse tournaments through a rigorous selection process conducted by high school coaches across the country that is designed to place top-tier athletes in front of NCAA coaches from all divisions. Many of those coaches also “play it forward” by providing collegiate-level instruction to youth players attending the Brine National Lacrosse Academy, empowering the coaches to give back and develop up-and-coming talent in the formative years.

“There’s nothing in the lacrosse world like this,” said Joel Franklin, Director of Lacrosse Division for LEGACY Global Sports, “By integrating all three prestigious events within one All-Star Week, we offer something for players at virtually every age and stage.

At the Brine National Lacrosse Academy, youth players are further developed under the tutelage of leading NCAA coaches. The Warrior National Prospect Invite and the Brine National Lacrosse Classic enable college coaches to scout some of the most exceptional high school athletes in the country, offering them unprecedented recruiting convenience. It’s the best of lacrosse in one convenient location, allowing players to get the exposure they need and college coaches to maximize their recruiting efforts.

“The Warrior National Prospect Invite, Brine National Lacrosse Classic and Brine National Lacrosse Academy enables a college coach to scout some of the most exceptional high school athletes in the country, offering them unprecedented recruiting convenience.”

A benchmark for youth and high school lacrosse in the United States, the Brine National Lacrosse Classic now in it’s ninth year, is an annual showcase event featuring more than 1,000 premier players from across the country selected to participate based on skills and sportsmanship demonstrated in regional tryouts. As a gateway to the NCAA, thousands of Brine National Lacrosse Classic participants have gone on to play at the college level.

New this year, the Warrior National Prospect Invite will highlight 430 high-achieving, uncommitted lacrosse players from the 2018 and 2019 graduating classes selected based on athletic acumen, personal character and academic excellence through a comprehensive nominating and coach referral process.

The event is highly selective and promises to be a two-day focal point for NCAA lacrosse coaches.

In its sixth year under the direction of Ron Caputo, assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Duke University, Chelsea Rosiek, head women’s lacrosse coach at St. Bonaventure University and Eileen Ghent, head women’s lacrosse coach at Monmouth University, the three-day Brine National Lacrosse Academy offers an intensive daily curriculum presented by leading top NCAA lacrosse coaches focused on how a young lacrosse athlete should develop in order to compete at the top high school and collegiate level. The program includes individual and group position instruction, human performance, sport psychology and national game competition.
