All four Philly teams make playoffs in Under Armour Underclass tourney

All four Philly teams have made the playoffs in the Under Armour Underclassmen tourney at Towson University.

The Philly boys’ Highlight (2018-19) teams defeated Washington D.C., 8-7 on OT, and the Midwest, 9-4, today to improve to 3-1 and take over first in its Pool. In the win over the Midwest, Jeff Conner (Strath Haven) had two goals and an assist and Dave Closterman (Academy of the New Church) scored twice while Mike Clibanoff (La Salle) stood out in goal and Gavin Tygh (Penn Charter) won 8 of 10 faceoffs.

In the win over DC, Ethan LaMond (La Salle) had three goals, including the game-winner, and Tygh (6 of 7) and Mike Sisselberger (7/12) dominated at the faceoff X. Kyle Long (Springfield-Delco) and Jack Traynor (Malvern Prep) each added two goals.

Team Philly plays DC again in the quarterfinals Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The Philly Highlight girls also are 3-1 and play New Jersey in the quarterfinals Sunday morning at 10:30. Today, Philly beat the West, 12-6, as Olivia Dirks (Episcopal Academy), Kamryn McNeal (Garnet Valley) and Emily Wills (Agnes Irwin) each scored three goals. Philly also beat the South, 12-7, as Dirks scored four and Peyton Mottice (Downingtown West) had three goals.

In the Command (2020-21) Division, the Philly girls also are 3-1 and meet the South at 8:00 in the quarterfinals Sunday morning. Today, Philly routed the West, 16-5, as Natalie Pansini (Agnes Irwin) had four goals and Jayne Morley (Avon Grove) had three.

The Philly Command boys also are 3-1 and play the South in the quarterfinals at 8 a.m. Team Philly suffered its first loss today to Long Island, 14-4.
