6 Points Sports Academy URJ Summer Lacrosse Camp for Jewish boys and girls, 4th to 11th grade, Greensboro, N.C. 6 Points Sports Academy is located in a 100-acre, $100 million dollar state-of-the-art athletic and camp facilities of the American Hebrew Academy. At 6 Points Sports Academy, athletes from 35 different states all over North America and 7 different countries participate in a unique camping experience that offers top-level sports coaching and all the beloved traditions of Reform Jewish camping. Within its kind and nurturing community, campers form friendships for life while feeding their passion for their chosen sport – and achieve a higher quality of life as young Jewish athletes. The camp offers three separate sessions of 2 weeks each, with many campers choosing to experience 6 Points for 4 – or even 6 – weeks per summer. The coaches are NCAA level coaches – most of whom have been with the camp since day 1. These coaches – many of which coach the USA teams for Maccabi USA – are skilled enough to challenge the top tiered athlete who comes to camp, and to teach, mentor and guide the lower skilled athletes who love their sport and love being at camp at the same time. This magical experience takes place on the finest camp facility in all of North America. Campers live in air-conditioned college style dorms, with either 1 or 2 roommates that they have the option of selecting prior to arrival at camp.
During each day of the two week long session, campers participate in 4 hours of intensive skill development in one chosen sport (their sports major) and 2 hours of electives. Sports majors include girls’ lacrosse, boys’ lacrosse, soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, softball, swimming, and cheerleading / dance. This year they have added volleyball as a sports major for the first time ever during our 3rd session. Electives include kayaking, rock climbing, gaga, rugby, ultimate frisbee, flag football, 9 square in the air, weight training, cross country, and lacrosse. Jewish values are infused in everything we do at camp, starting with our 6 core values. Values are presented to our campers as ways to live Jewishly, as ways to live humanly, and as ways to live successfully. These values are presented by our Rabbis, faculty, and Jewish life team at camp each morning during our “Sportscenter” value presentation.

No. 1 Moorestown rallies past Ridgewood, 10-9, on late goals by Frantz

Moorestown celebrates one of three goals by Robin Panzarella (51) in Saturday’s win (Photos by Anthony Caruso)

The Moorestown girls’ lacrosse team, Phillylacrosse.com’s No. 1 team in its preaseason rankings, had an ambitious schedule to start the 2018 season.

The Quakers opened with an impressive 15-3 victory Wednesday over NJ.com’s No. 4 team, Rumson-Fair Haven, and then Saturday host Moorestown (ranked No. 2 by NJ.com) rallied for a thrilling 10-9 win over No. 3 Ridgewood with two late goals by Ava Frantz.

“I have had a lot of confidence coming in, but we still have a lot of confidence to work on,” Frantz said. “We’re trying to get through the season and hopefully this will help us get far into the playoffs.”

The win by the Quakers snapped a four-game losing streak to the Maroons, who won last year’s contest, 11-2.

“Last year was a really tough loss to swallow. We were losing maybe 10-0 with five minutes left to go, and that was definitely in the back of all of our kid’s heads this game,” Moorestown head coach Deanna Knobloch. “I think we came out strong. Both teams missed a lot of shooting opportunities with a lot of post hits. The game could have gone either way at the end. I’m really happy it fell in our favor this year.”

Ava Frantz scored twice, including the game-winner, for Mootrestown

This year, Moorestown scored six unanswered goal and led, 6-2, early in the second half. Ridgewood responded with a 7-2 run and took a 9-7 lead with 2:40 to play on tallies by Annie McCarthy and Nocole Macolino (three goals, one assist).

But Kayla Frank drew the Quakers within 9-8 and Frantz, a James Madison signee, tied it with just less than a minute left. Then she replaced an injured Cailin Field at center, won the draw and notched the game-winner by converting a free position with under 30 seconds to play.

“I just had so much adrenaline going down and I just wanted to do this for my team,” Frantz said. “We haven’t beat Ridgewood in four ears, so we all wanted this so badly.

“We were tied and I knew we needed to get one more. I figured I would run down there and try to get it for my team. We wanted this badly and we want to play in the final game of the season.”

The Quakers raced to the early lead behind Robin Panzarella (three goals, Penn commit) and Kacey Knobloch (one goal, two assists, JMU signee).

“I really believe this team, especially its senior class is on a mission,” coach Knobloch said. “She (Robin) plays with heart and soul every time she’s out there on the field. She gives everything that she has.”

Moorestown started Maddie Lucidi (four saves) in net. Emily Toft (one save) was inserted late in the game.

“It’s just a gut feeling,” coach Knobloch said. “Sometimes, you feel like a change will give us a spark, a change of position.”

Ridgewood was held scoreless for close to 25 minutes when Moorestown scored its six straight goals.

The Maroons goalie Kara Rahaim, a Stanford recruit, had 11 saves.

Why did you choose Elizabethtown? “I chose Elizabethtown for many reasons. First off I liked coach (Chris) Perzinski and how he runs a fun, competitive program.
